Barry's Gorilla

I am interested in animal welfare and I am concerned about the fate of Barry's gorilla. This is a gorilla who has been for many years in the window of a barbershop near our house. What the heck does Barry think he is doing? OK, so the animal looks clean and clothed but it can't be much fun sitting in a window for all these years. Is he supposed to be some sort of model for Barry's hairdressing? I know what some of the men are like in Hull, but this is ridiculous. I have seen Barry out and about and he cuts a somewhat dissolute figure, regularly buying a paper and sitting about on a bench reading it and smoking. Once my son ventured into Barry's shop and emerged like a newly shorn lamb with a regular number two crew cut, his lovely blond locks all over the floor. I think Barry's establishment is altogether too masculine (I have read the magazines he leaves lying about) and he maybe needs to venture into female styling which may be a civilising influence.

that poor monkey. his posture is very bad. you should take up a collection to get him a back brace. or maybe just a better chair.

Yes, Laurie, I agree. I was perhaps trying to touch on the higher issues of animal welfare but a brace might be a start. A lesson for us all. Look what happens if you do nothing but sit in a chair for ten years lol

Hi Beverly,

I agree with you both. Have you considered getting animal welfare in there? Poor monkey shouldn't have to spend his life being a bad example for us!

Diane, he is being a bad example to us all. But maybe in that case he is actually having quite a good time lol

Is that all he gets to do? Sit in a window and collect dust. Sounds like animal cruelty to me. I think you should rescue him :)

He looks happy to watch the world go by. At least he's not hanging out all morning in the coffee shop, pinching the waitress on the bum.

Gina, we have monkeys/gorillas who do that round here too. Maybe he is a monkey. He certainly has more a monkey face than a gorilla face, but I can't see a tail. I have always thought of him in my mind as a gorilla. Maybe it's just one of the many misconceptions in my head I walk about with.
