Two Things Love/Bird

The egret is a heron
Prosaic until the time to mate
Then the egret has a fluffy side
Who says it cannot dance Swan Lake

I have never heard of the egret before this week's Two Things, but it seems to be a recurring theme of the challenge. It apparently develops these fluffy feathers during the breeding season, can strike such balletic poses, and, when it's body feathers are spread, appears to be wearing a tutu. I can just picture this egret in one of the world's greatest love stories. (A bit far-fetched this posting).

Love the poem and your illustration. It' sounds much more of a romantic bird with your description!

Loved your comment on my blog about black beauty. I did not know about the circumstances in which is was written and like the book even more now!

I love your drawing of the egret and the little poem. The idea of dancing Swan Lake is cool when looking at the egret's pose. They are such wonderful birds to see!!

I think all of us would like to dance a swan lake at some point in life... I guess you could use it as an analogy of sorts. "Swan Lakes" could be any desired accomplishment that one has worked hard to achieve.

Yes, Bev, I had noticed egrets poppig up all over the place myself and wondered if there had been a population explosion recently. I have yet to go to the dictionary to find out what this bird is called in Dutch.

I like your drawing and your poem and am once again confronted with the fact that you are a multi talented woman who hides her light under a bushel. You must take it out from under there and let it shine more often.

I am so glad to know you and you certainly add your share to my experience in the blog world. My day is not complete without a post from you.

I'll never see an egret without thinking of it's tutu :) Nice drawing and Haiku?

Bev, lovely words and drawing - here in USA we have snowy egret, cattle egret, great egret and redish egret. Cattle egrets came over from Africa about fifty years ago, landed in South America and now are in New York in summer....they live more in grasslands than on the coast and pick off grasshopers etc that jump out of the way of elephants, cattle and cars. They love to ride on the backs of cattle for better view of prey and to save energy.

Enough said...my best.
