Two Things Old/New

Old wood, but the new blossoms and daffodils are coming through. Also the building after the floods in June in Hull is still in progress as you can see from the planks, so these people will get new things. Looking at the contents of the skips on my dog walks a lot of people will get new things, even people whose things weren't particularly damaged. A lot of these things have been taken from the skips, cleaned up and sold on in the charity shops.

I'm going to guess "skips" are....like garbage dumpsters here? (Big rubbish bins?)

Oprah just did a show this week about people who dumpster dive. It's apparently the new chic life style. Well, not THE new chic life style, but it's getting some press because of the ecological principles behind it. I've been known to reuse refuse myself. For some reason, old bikes, chairs, and bicycles look especially nice in garden nooks.

(I'm not sure this pile does much for the appearance of this garden, though.) Love seeing the daffodils, though. Spring is coming! Whew!

(Oops. Should have read "old bikes, chairs, and tea kettles..")

I was just thinking like Debi, wonder what is in the skips? It is good that they get recycled as rebuilding is always such a waste of materials. I see boards in that pile that look like they could be used again. Love the pictures of the crocus and snow drops. My crocus are not blooming yet, but I have daffodils galore. Every year I plant a few more. This fall I will start planting down our driveway, God willing and I am able.

Nice Old/New!

Yes, and yes. Lovely to have the flowers out. Renewal. Spring hopes eternal. tee hee - I need to think of something egret related, but I can smell something beginning to burn and must rush downstairs.

I'm back from my enforced blooging drought and it's so lovely the daffidols! Nice to hear that some of the stuff from skips (we call them that too) has been rescued and given a new home!
Great to see your take on old and new!

Yes, botanically you are ahead of us over there. You have more things blooming than we do. Your climate must be just a bit milder than ours.

We're having a storm now and it is blowing and raining at the same time, but I am cozy and warm and dry inside. You must have had the same storm pass you by earlier. It's funny how our weather very often comes from you in England. It makes it a small world, doesn't it?

A lot of the things in the skips were bits of kitchens and things that like leather sofas that just needed disinfecting (these were the things that were taken by the rag and bone men on the back of their horsedrawn carts). I know things were sold on because there was a sign on our local charity shop saying 'These things are not flood salvaged'! I think a lot of people took the opportunity to fully redecorate their houses on the insurance money. This is not to belittle the experiences of people whose houses were completely wrecked by the flood.

I'm always so happy when spring starts to show up in the form of colorful little flowers. And there's nothing quite as gratifying as a good spring clean, too! For Hull, it would seem especially gratifying after last year's floods. Nice set of interpretations this week, Bev!

Spring seems so far off up here in the frozen wasteland of MN. Happy to see the flowers in bloom.
